SGH Activities in 2015
Project Study(Compulsory Subjects)
“Global Geography”(【Subject:Geography and History】For First-Year Students)
Conducting the fieldwork in Suwa (Nagano) in May, which has been determined based on the advice of Ochanomizu University geography course, and posting activity reports on the local newspaper in Nagano.
Participating in the 15th Global Environment Paper sponsored by Chuo University and received the School Prize.
Participating in the poster session for high school students sponsored by the Association of Japanese Geographers, as extra-curricular activities by volunteer students. Four students was awarded in the autumn tournament, and five students was awarded in the spring by the Association of Japanese Geographers Chairman.
Conducting a study session on the Great East Japan Earthquake and visiting Tohoku disaster-stricken areas, as extra-curricular activities in cooperation with the Afghan volunteer club, Ochanomizu University and Miyagi University of Education in December.

“Studies in Sustainable Society I”(【Subject:The Period for Integrated Studies】For Second-Year Students)
29 research groups of the students conducted fieldwork. What to research and where to visit including negotiations conducted by the students. The students presented a result of research at the school cultural festival in September.
Inviting Prof. Manabu Sato as a lecturer from department of regional administration of Okinawa International University.
Writing papers as a result of own research in order to explore further challenge in the third -year.

“Research on Global Issues”(【Subject:The Period for Integrated Studies】For Second-Year Students)
International Cooperation and Gender Issues[Human Rights and Inequality]
Visiting Taipei First Girls High School to present and discuss on " education support for girls" and "child labor".
Designing and selling enlightenment goods such as cans badge and pencil, to sue the girl's rights and support girls in developing countries.

Economic Development and the Environment[Toward Sustainable Development]
Discussing environmental issues with foreign exchange students at Ochanomizu Univ.
Inviting foreign instructors and students from China and Thailand for English lessons towards the overseas training in August.

Visiting Tianjin (China) as youth members of AEON Asia Youth Leaders sponsored by AEON One Percent Club, joining fieldwork with students from Asian countries and proposing a solution for trash problems in Tianjin
Training in Bangkok scheduled in August canceled due to the explosion incidents occurred just prior to travel, but to join another oversea training to Taipei in October, being able to discuss with Taipei First Girls High School students.
Participating in the National Convention of the 1st Youth Challenge for environmental activities sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment, and getting the excellent award for the proposal on “Fashion and Environment Problem ".
Through participating in the 18th National Junior High School Web contest, being to deepen exploration activity while creating Web pages which awarded METI (the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry ) Award, Platinum Award, Gold Medal and silver medal.

International Relations and Resolution[Poverty, Peace, and Human Rights]

Participating in the 9th Global Classrooms in Japan as role of the French and Nigeria ambassadors.
Participating in the 16th Nikkei Stock Leagues and received special jury prize for “Solving the Global Social Issue by Investment”.
In January and February, Making an English-language newspaper, " The Student Times Project", carried out by The Japan Times, ELEC and GEIC, in which putting together the result of the research.

Information Technology and Creativity[Science, Technology and Society]
Acquiring the knowledge and skills related to information technologies, such as programming, and the skills and mindset for ploblem solving, and working on the project assignments, with the aim of solving and improving the social issues.
Visiting Taipei First Girls High school and Pacific Image Electronic Ltd. in Taiwan, as overseas training supported by Collaborative Organization for Research in women's Education of STEM.
Inviting experts from the companies as well as visiting the organizations to have the special lectures and the discussions.

“Advanced Research on Global Issues”(【Subject:The Period for Integrated Studies】For third-Year Students)
A solution to the global challenges that each has been developed at the second grade and proposals to companies and international organizations, in order to cause a concrete action towards the resolution, under the guidance of foreign instructors, a-year discussion in English, while repeated correction guidance of the report, finished writing the final proposal as the result of the research.
An action plan that was created to cause a specific action on the basis of the companies and international organizations, presented the results of these activities in the cultural festival, and created a personal paper as a result of the exploration of the year.

Global Courses
Participating in "International Exchange: Event Joint Forum 2015" hosted by Ochanomizu University and joining a group discussion on "Women and Career" with Miss International 2015 representatives from 75 countries and university students.
Inviting a special lecture on "Basic of Liberal Arts: Mathematics" in which challenging problem-solving with statistics, conducted by Prof. Michiko Watanabe of Keio University.
Inviting a special lecture on "How to Explore Your Research by Taking Advantage of the Library", conducted by Ms.Izumi Mori, the manager of Library and information Division (Ochanomizu University).
